How to Get from Phuket to Phi Phi

How far is Phi Phi from Phuket?
About 48 km (26 nautical miles) in a straight line from Chalong Pier, and about 54 km (29 nautical miles) from Ao Po Grand Marina. A motor yacht covers it in roughly one to two hours; a speedboat is quicker; the ferry takes about two hours to Tonsai Pier.
Which pier you leave from depends on where your boat is berthed, and is confirmed when you book. Distances here are straight-line approximations — the actual route on the water is always a little longer.
The ferry: cheapest, on a timetable, no swimming stops
Scheduled ferries leave from Rassada Pier on the east side of Phuket and run to Tonsai Pier on Phi Phi Don in about two hours.
This is the cheapest option and the only sensible one if you are moving to Phi Phi rather than visiting — with luggage, for several nights. The limits are obvious: the ferry runs to a timetable, arrives at the busiest point of the archipelago, and stops nowhere along the way. Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Bamboo Island — from the ferry you see them at a distance, if at all.
A group speedboat tour: fast, but on someone else's plan
The standard day trip: hotel pickup in the morning, a shared speedboat with several dozen people, a fixed circuit — Maya Bay, the lagoon, a snorkelling stop, lunch, back by evening.
Faster than the ferry and with actual stops, but everything runs to a rigid programme. The real drawback is that all the group tours follow the same route at the same time. At every stop you arrive alongside the rest of the fleet: a queue at the beach, a crowd in the lagoon, forty minutes per point, then on to the next by the clock.
A private boat: your route, your timing
A private speedboat or yacht removes both drawbacks. You leave when you decide — earlier than the group tours, for instance, to reach Maya Bay before they do. The route is built around you: how long to stay in each bay, where to snorkel, where to eat, whether to add Bamboo Island.

How long does a speedboat take from Phuket to Phi Phi?
About an hour and a half each way. Phi Phi is roughly 48 km from Phuket, and a private speedboat cruises at 25 to 35 knots.
