The 74 km day, and what it asks of the boat
Racha Yai lies about 26 km south of Chalong, Racha Noi a further 11 km on, and the leg home is about 37 km — roughly 74 km for the pair. That is longer than a bay day, and it is the reason the boat matters more here than on the short routes.
It does not rule out the slower hulls. The sailing catamarans work this route from Chalong perfectly well; they simply plan the day differently, with fewer stops and more time under way. What changes with speed is how much of the day you spend ashore rather than whether you get there.

On the sailing catamarans the programme is Racha plus Coral Island rather than both Rachas. On Technema 89 Say Yes and Ferretti 80 Sofia the ฿165,000 is the high-season figure for the nine-hour Racha Yai plus Racha Noi day; the low-season rate on those two is quoted per enquiry. The Indigo 53 Super Mario is the one boat priced the same either way, which makes it the simplest choice if the group has not decided in the morning.

What is in the rate and what is not

There is no national park fee at the Racha islands. That is worth knowing when comparing quotes: on Phang Nga and the Krabi routes the park fee is ฿300 per person on top.
The two islands are not interchangeable
Racha Yai has white sand, Patok Bay, easy swimming and somewhere to sit ashore. It is the island to pick if the day is about the beach.
Racha Noi is rockier, deeper and has almost no facilities. It is the better water: this is where people dive and where the snorkelling off the boat is worth the extra 11 km.
If the group wants deep snorkelling, stay longer at Racha Noi. If it wants beach time and easy water, spend the afternoon at Racha Yai. On most boats taking both costs ฿5,000 to ฿6,000 more than Racha Yai alone.
Seasons, with dates
Low season May to October carries the starting rates. High season November to April. Peak starts on 20 December. Its end date is set per yacht and runs from mid-January to the end of February, so read it off the rate table on the boat's page. A few boats publish a single all-year rate with a peak surcharge and no low-to-high split at all. High season is roughly a quarter above low across the fleet, peak adds more again, and there is no separate New Year surcharge on top of peak.
Practical notes
A day to both islands is a full eight to nine hours. Boats leave Chalong between nine and ten and are back in the late afternoon; the exact return depends on the boat, since the fleet on this route runs from seven knots on the sailing catamarans to twenty on the Azimut Atlantis 50. In poor weather the captain decides the route and we offer alternative cruising grounds, not a refund. Enquiries are answered around the clock, within an hour in working hours.
