Koh Lipe by Private Yacht from Phuket
Koh Lipe by Private Yacht from Phuket
Koh Lipe
Horizon Cruises Phuket arranges Koh Lipe as a three-day private charter, not a single day: the island lies about 184 km from Chalong Pier, so guests sleep on board at anchor and reach the beaches at first light. Rates are per boat for the whole trip and are set out on each yacht's page; park fees are added unless the yacht's page lists them in the rate. Message us on WhatsApp to plan the days and the boat.
The island belongs to Tarutao National Park and is notable for its exceptional cleanliness, pristine nature, rich flora and fauna.
There are white sandy beaches, opportunities for underwater swimming: 25% of all tropical fish species in the world live in the sea.
The island can be explored in 30 minutes by bicycle.
There are four main beaches on Koh Lipe:
- Sunset Beach (Hat Pramong),
- Sunrise Beach (Hat Chao Lei),
- Karma,
- Pattaya Beach.
Benefits of the location:
- Gastronomic experiences. Local Thai dishes, such as freshly caught fish, can be tasted in eateries resembling a market.
- Accom options in Koh Lipe are diverse – from budget hostels and hotels in the Walking Street area to luxury resorts located on the beachfront. Some of the best hotels are Castaway Resort, Serendipity Resort, and Bayview Sunset Bungalows.
- A rich tourist infrastructure allows you to rent diving equipment and take scuba diving lessons at one of the schools.
When to plan a visit to Koh Lipe
The ideal time to visit Koh Lipe depends on the season. Traditionally, the year is divided into three seasons:
- High season (from November to April). Pros: high probability of favorable weather conditions. Cons: a large number of tourists leads to higher prices compared to other parts of Thailand.
- Peak season (mid-December to mid-January). Coincides with Christmas and New Year, the island sees the maximum influx of tourists, and prices for everything go up.
- Low season (May to October). Pros: fewer tourists and prices significantly decrease, this is a budget option. Cons: the weather becomes less stable, the probability of rains and storms increases. The monsoon period begins, and it becomes somewhat more difficult to get to the island.

How far is Koh Lipe from Phuket?
In a straight line it is about 184 km (99 nautical miles) from Chalong Pier to Koh Lipe. This is an approximate straight-line distance, not an exact navigational figure — the actual route on the water is always somewhat longer.
The crossing time depends on the particular yacht, the weather and the state of the sea — boats run differently, which is why the trip is planned over several days rather than one. The departure pier is also chosen to suit the route and the vessel, so we confirm the exact timing and departure point when planning your trip. Given the distance, this is not a standard one-day round trip: the schedule and format are agreed individually when booking.
When planning a longer day on the water, this trip is often combined with Koh Ha and Koh Rok or Phi Phi and Bamboo Island.
Where does this route depart from? Chalong Pier and the island's marinas are compared in where yachts depart from in Phuket.
How to get to Koh Lipe from Phuket
There are three ways, and they are not close to equivalent.
By private yacht. About 184 km from Phuket — which is why this is a three-day trip rather than a day trip. You keep the boat, the route and the schedule, and you sleep aboard at anchor — which in practice means you are at the islands at first light, before anything else arrives.
By scheduled ferry or speedboat. Possible, and much cheaper per person. It also means fixed departure times, a fixed number of hours ashore, and arriving at exactly the same moment as every other boat. For Koh Lipe this usually involves a road transfer to Pak Bara pier far down the mainland coast — check current schedules, they change with the season.
By day trip from Phuket. Not realistic at this distance. 184 km each way leaves almost no time at the islands, and we do not run it as a single day.
Which boat suits the run is a separate question — the shortlist is further down this page.
Koh Lipe is a compact island in the Adang-Rawi archipelago of the Malacca Strait, belonging to Tarutao National Park.
The waters around Koh Lipe are home to roughly 25% of all tropical fish species in the world, making it a standout spot for snorkeling and diving.
Koh Lipe has four main beaches: Sunset Beach (Hat Pramong), Sunrise Beach (Hat Chao Lei), Karma, and Pattaya Beach.
The high season runs from November to April with the most favorable weather, peaking around Christmas and New Year (mid-December to mid-January) with the largest crowds and highest prices. The low season, May to October, is quieter and more budget-friendly but brings less stable weather.
The island is compact enough to explore by bicycle in about 30 minutes, and it offers a rich tourist infrastructure including dive equipment rental and scuba diving schools.
What a Koh Lipe charter costs
Multi-day charters are priced per boat for the whole trip, as listed on each yacht's page, not as a day rate multiplied by the days. Park fees are added where they apply, unless the yacht's page lists them in the rate, and so is a fuel fee where the page lists one for the distance. Season moves the base rate by roughly a quarter: low season runs May to October, high season November to April, and the peak dates differ by boat and are shown on each yacht's page.
Full tables by format and season are on the yacht charter prices page.

Frequently asked questions
How many days do we need for Koh Lipe by yacht from Phuket?
Three. At that distance a single day leaves almost no time at the islands, which is why we do not run it as one. The boat anchors overnight on the way and at Koh Lipe itself; you keep the route and the schedule, and the days ashore are built around the four beaches, the snorkelling and Tarutao National Park. We set the plan with you for your dates; the format is described in overnight yacht charters from Phuket.
Which boats can sleep on board for a Koh Lipe trip?
Boats with cabins. From the list on this page, the power catamaran Leopard 51 Se La Vie sleeps 8 guests in 4 cabins from ฿74,900, the motor yacht Ferretti 80 Sofia sleeps 8 from ฿100,000, and the sailing catamaran Sunreef 60 Eco E-MOTION sleeps 8 in 4 cabins from ฿571,800. The overnight headcount is lower than the day headcount, so count the group by the cabins, not the deck.
Can we combine Koh Lipe with Koh Ha and Koh Rok?
Yes, and it is the natural pairing: Koh Ha and Koh Rok lie about 106 km from Chalong on the same southward run, the closest of the overnight routes, so a boat heading for Koh Lipe can spend a night there on the way down or on the way back. Phi Phi and Bamboo Island are the other option for a stop. Tell us which you prefer and we will add the time to the plan.
Is the Tarutao park fee included in the charter price?
It depends on the boat. Koh Lipe belongs to Tarutao National Park, and the park fees are paid on top of the charter unless the yacht's page lists them in the rate, so bring cash in baht. The rate itself covers the yacht with its captain and crew, insurance for the guests, snorkelling equipment, drinking water and soft drinks, and the fuel for the agreed route except where a yacht's page lists a fuel fee; what the galley serves over three days, and the bar, depend on the boat. Anything you buy ashore on Walking Street is extra.
Is it worth going to Koh Lipe by yacht instead of the ferry?
It depends on what you want from the trip. A scheduled ferry or speedboat is cheaper for a small party, but it usually means a road transfer to Pak Bara pier far down the mainland coast, set departure times, a set number of hours ashore and the same arrival moment as every other boat. A private yacht keeps the boat, the route and the schedule with you, and you are at the islands before anything else arrives.
