About this boat
Sambuca is a 53ft Grand Banks-style motor yacht, fully refitted in 2021, and the most affordable proper yacht in the Ao Po fleet at 40,000 baht for a day. Her spacious flybridge is where the day happens: a trawler-style boat like this has a high, wide upper deck with real shade, and on Sambuca that deck takes most of a group of 20 at once, which is why she is booked for birthdays and family days far more often than her price suggests. She cruises at 10 knots. That is slow by the standards of the sport yachts nearby, and it shapes the choice of route: from Ao Po Grand Marina the sensible days are Phang Nga Bay and Koh Hong, the Koh Yao islands, Naka and Khai — all close, all sheltered, all reachable without spending the day under way.
Koh Hong Krabi and Maiton are possible as longer days; Phi Phi is not her route. Two cabins sleep 4 overnight, and a crew of 4 — captain, two deckhands and a hostess — run the boat, which is a generous crew for her size and shows in how the day is served. At anchor the toys come out: a floating pool, a jet ski, a kayak, paddleboards, a SUBLUE Navbow underwater scooter and snorkelling gear. Who she is for: a group of 12 to 20 who care more about the deck and the price than about speed or a designer interior, and who want the bay rather than the far islands.
Who should look elsewhere: anyone set on Phi Phi, or on a fast, sleek boat — Sambuca is comfortable, not quick. A word on the crew size, because it is unusual at this price: four people on a boat this length means someone is always free to run the tender, mind the toys and keep the table going, rather than one deckhand doing all three in turn.
