Charter types available in Phuket: sail or power

Six types of boat, and the type follows your group rather than the other way round. Speedboats take four to twelve guests and reach the islands fastest — the simplest boat rental for a day at the islands. Motor yachts are the largest part of the fleet, forty-one monohulls for six to eighty guests. Power catamarans keep the deck level at anchor and carry up to eighty-five.

Sailing catamarans are the cheapest way to take a large group out; for two or four people, a small boat hire costs less again. Every yacht hire includes the captain and crew, fuel for the agreed route, passenger insurance, water and soft drinks, snorkelling gear, towels and a hotel transfer on full days. Day charters, overnight trips and week-long sailing itineraries

Charter a boat for the day and you get one main island group, with time for swimming, snorkelling and lunch. An overnight charter allows a slower itinerary, quieter evening anchorages and more time away from Phuket. Multi-day and week-long cruises combine several areas of the Andaman Sea, from Phang Nga Bay to Krabi and the Phi Phi Islands, depending on the yacht's range and cabin count. Beaches, snorkelling and marine life along the way

Most routes mix a beach stop with a reef: the sand at Khai Nok or Bamboo Island, then the coral and fish off Racha or Koh Hae. Every boat carries masks and fins; many add kayaks and paddleboards, and the larger yachts bring seabobs, slides and towables. Between December and April the water is at its clearest. At the reefs the captain picks up a mooring buoy rather than anchoring on coral, and lunch is served at anchor or ashore on the islands. Weather, seasons and the best time to sail in Thailand

Phuket has a tropical monsoon climate. November to April is the dry season: light winds, a flat sea on both coasts and the full choice of routes, including the Similans and the west coast. May to October brings the south-west monsoon, with more variable weather, stronger winds and larger waves on the west coast; Phang Nga Bay and the east side stay sheltered, and the rainy season is also when prices are lowest.

Conditions can change in any month. Before departure, the captain reviews the marine forecast and may recommend a safer route; keep the schedule flexible when the weather affects the original plan. For the 2026/27 season the weeks around Christmas and New Year are booked months ahead, so book those dates first.

There is no single yacht harbour in Phuket, so a boat hire starts wherever its boat is berthed. Boats leave from Chalong Pier in the south, Ao Po Grand Marina in the north-east, and Boat Lagoon and Royal Phuket Marina on the east coast. How much does it cost to charter a yacht in Phuket?

The price is per boat, per day, and includes the crew and fuel for the route. A sailing catamaran starts from ฿20,900, a motor yacht from ฿33,900 and a power catamaran from ฿35,900; the speedboat and superyacht ends of the range are in the price section above. The figure you receive is the final one, with national park fees paid separately on the day.

Is a private charter worth it compared with a shared boat tour?

For a group of eight to ten, a private speedboat often costs about the same per person as a shared island tour, with your own route, your own timing and no queue at the pier. For two, the sensible answer is a small boat rather than a large yacht. Reviews on Google and Tripadvisor are from guests who went out with us; read them before you decide.

Is yacht charter in Phuket safe?

Every boat we offer carries a Thai passenger licence, life jackets for every guest, including children, and passenger insurance. The captain reviews the forecast before departure and chooses the sheltered side of the island when the west coast is rough, so a safe route exists in every month of the year.

What is the 12-person rule on a yacht?

It comes from international yacht regulations: a yacht carrying more than twelve passengers must be certified as a passenger vessel. Here each boat is licensed for its own number of guests, which is the figure shown on its page, and the captain works to that limit.

What extra costs should I plan for?

National park entry at Phi Phi, the Similans or Phang Nga is paid per person at the park. Alcohol, water toys and lunch on some boats, guests beyond the included headcount and extra hours on the water are quoted before you pay, never added afterwards. There are no mooring fees for guests: the berth is the boat's own.

How far is Krabi from Phuket by yacht?

From the island's east coast it is between one and two hours by speedboat depending on the marina, and half a day by motor yacht, so Krabi works as a long day on a fast boat or as the second day of an overnight route via Phang Nga.
